Moscow, Russia, 08/10/2011. The main hall inside the Bolshoi Theatre during a press tour showcasing the almost completed renovation work. The building has been closed for repairs since 2005 and is scheduled to reopen on October 28th 2011.

A performer’s-eye view from the stage of the newly-renovated Bolshoi Theatre main auditorium; the theatre closed for repairs in 2005 and is scheduled to reopen on October 28th with a gala performance. The renovations, the most extensive in the theatre’s history, combine state of the art technology with traditional craftsmanship. The gold leaf that decorates much of the theatre is made from a medieval recipe of eggs, vodka and real gold: which helps explain the $700 million repair bill.
